Like James the Less, the only references to Simon the Zealot are the lists of disciples in the scriptures. The difference is the rather descriptive word “zealot.” While “less” is open to a number of interpretations, to say someone is a zealot carries the weight of identifying that person’s political party. And in today’s divisive culture along political lines, that is saying quite a bit about that person’s identity. On this Rally Day, we will explore what it means to possess the name zealot. How are we excited (zealous?) about our faith and being out in the world as agents of transformation? What draws us toward the mission and ministry of the Church of Jesus Christ?
