Tax Collectors like Matthew were despised in Biblical days, and perhaps we still consider them suspect today. When given the opportunity to follow Jesus, Matthew immediately left everything and followed our Lord. Matthew’s response to this sudden new opportunity in his life did what he thought was proper: he threw a party! Matthew invited his friends, many of them fellow Tax Collectors, so that they could meet the man who had changed his life. What is our response to having our lives changed? How do we celebrate? How do we share our joy and faith? These are great questions to consider as we consider the legacy of The Twelve and the legacy that we desire to possess. Based on Luke 5:27-39.
