Philip the Practical

Philip the Practical

Philip was one who questioned Jesus because he was cautious or practical or calculating. One can choose to view him as you wish. What we know about Philip is pretty much derived from John’s gospel. The scripture today is one that demonstrates clearly Philip’s practical side; he grew up in the region where the Feeding of the Five Thousand happened. It was only natural that Jesus would ask Philip where they can get food to feed them. But Philip calculated the cost of feeding the multitude and answered with a rather negative tone. As followers of Christ, it is good to be practical but to also remember that we “can do all things through him who strengthens us.” (Philippians 4:13). Based on John 6:1-14.
