Jezebel is a name that is synonymous with wickedness. Jezebel held onto power in an era of political decline. Her husband Ahab chose Jezebel over the well-being and good well of his people. Elijah and Obadiah were prophets during this time and Elijah did battle with the Priests of Baal (Baal was Jezebel’s idolatrous cult that she brought to Israel from her homeland Samaria). Though the daughter of a king, the wife of a king, and the mother and grandmother of kings, she was neither a good wife and mother nor a just ruler. Her evil ways became generational, ignoring the guidance of God and therefore never experiencing God’s blessings. Based on I Kings 21:1-25.
