This is the story of two women; Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Gomer, the wife of Hosea. Gomer committed adultery and yet God instructed Hosea to stay married and be faithful to Gomer, just as God has continued to be faithful to a people who turn from God. This is the same God who placed a calling upon a young servant girl from Nazareth to be the mother of Christ. The point is this: God’s love is scandalous and steadfast, never-ending. During this season of Advent, we should ask ourselves, what other gods have we honored when we should be faithful to our God who comes to us through the Christ Child?
