Fresh Courage

Haggai was a prophet of Israel just after the Babylonian exile when the Persian emperor Cyrus the Great and his armies had captured and occupied the city of Babylon. Cyrus saw no need to continue to hold the Jewish leaders as hostages, so he freed them. Go home, he said. The challenge for the Israelite people is they had never lived in the land of Judah. That land was only familiar through tales that were two or three generations past. When we have new opportunities presented to us, we often have to leave what is familiar and feels safe behind. We are certainly in a transitional time at Central Church and the question we have to ask ourselves is “Can we summon Fresh Courage?” Based on Haggai 2:9.
