Sponsored by the Waterford Refugee Welcome Alliance
Sunday, November 5th, 2017
3:00 – 5:00 pm
Christ Lutheran Church
5987 Williams Lake Rd., Waterford MI
The Alliance is hosting this event to raise awareness of the plight of the nearly 65 million refugees in the world today, as well as the challenges faced by local Syrian refugees, especially in light of the Waterford Board of Trustees vote to halt participation in the federal government’s refugee resettlement program.
The event will feature “welcoming voices,” including religious, politcal and civic representatives. Attendees will also hear from some of the relocated families themselves. Speakers include:
Andy Meisner – Treasurer, Oakland County
Rev. Manisha Dostert – Assistant Rector, Christ Church Cranbrook
Imam Almasmari – Muslim Unity Center
Area agencies working with refugees will be present, including Samaritas and the Syrian American Rescue Network. The event is open to the public and a children’s activity area will be provided. There will be refreshments following the presentations.
