The Apostle Paul wrote to the people of Ephesus, “For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12). Jesus’ first enemy he confronted after being baptized by John was spiritual. A battle that Jesus was led to by none other than the Holy Spirit. Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness by Satan underscores the spiritual battle he engaged in, emerging victorious through his reliance on Scripture and obedience to our Creator God. As we enter into Lent, we can ask ourselves, what are the spiritual forces that we must confront so that we may grow in our faith and our relationship with God and Jesus Christ?
