So much of the deeper meaning of Christmas is lost in our cherished traditions and selfish consumerism. How do we hold onto the essence that “unto us a child is born?” By not looking to a perfect Christmas but to seeing the message in the mess of the real-life drama of a child being born to a young, most likely frightened mother and her husband who must still be reeling from doubts about the entire ordeal. The mess continues through the cruelty of King Herod and the death of an estimated 140,000 baby boys. But God can and will redeem any situation! Based on Luke 2:1-14 and Isaiah 9:2-7.
