Jesus was very aware of who was and that he, along with his message, would be rejected. His parable of the wicked tenants makes it abundantly clear that he will be rejected and even killed. As Jesus grew up with the Psalms, he heard this Psalm as a foundational piece about the one who trusts the message of salvation with his followers – a message that he was willing to die for. The parable Jesus taught reflects Psalm 118 and in that parable, the son of the landlord is not the only one whose life is lost. What are we willing to risk so that others will know of God’s great love and salvation? Based on Matthew 21: 33-46 and Psalm 118:19-29.
