Peter is the quintessential disciple, the first to speak on that First Pentecost denouncing the thought that the disciples were drunk. He explained what was happening that day and how the work of the Holy Spirit was in their midst. The problem with Peter is that he almost always leaped before he looked, often sticking his foot in his mouth or failing in some other way. Peter seemed more like shifting sand than a rock-steady foundation. While many of us are like Peter, often making mistakes, we must remember that Peter was also deeply aware of Jesus’ forgiveness as well. Based on Matthew 16:13-20.
