Women of the Bible Message Series

Lydia was a woman of determination, foresight, and generosity and had a personal charm that drew people to her. She was a member of the first little group of worshipers in Philippi. Lydia certainly belonged to an important group, The Dyer’s Guild. An old inscription bearing those words had been discovered in ruins in Thyatira in Asia Minor. She brought her craft of dying cloth from there to Philippi. She was a successful businesswoman; we assume she was a widow. Her home became one of the bases for Paul and Silas’ missionary trips. She was truly one of the first supporters of the early Christian Church. Based on Acts 16:9-40.
