The prophet Isaiah wrote about the Suffering Servant. While he was writing about the nation of Israel, what he wrote also applies to Jesus. We’ve spoken about relationships, seeking justice and loving kindness, the intimacy of our relationship with God, and God’s love and grace. All of this comes to us as a freely given gift from God. However, it comes at a cost, which is borne by the suffering servants of the Old Testament and through Jesus the Christ. The question for us, in a very significant way, is how will we bear that cost in our own way and in our own time?
