The Jewish people were a people whose culture was marked by anticipation; they waited for the one who would lead them as the successor of King David. They waited for the Messiah, the Christ, the Anointed One of God. Jesus proclaimed himself to be that Anointed One. Although Jesus quotes the prophet Isaiah from the scroll handed to him in the Temple, Psalm 2 clearly indicates the expectation of the Messiah stated in this worship and songbook of the Israelite people. Based on Psalm 2 and Luke 4:14-21.
