Central UMC is part of the Liberia Covenant of the Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church. This initiative encompasses three distinct mission opportunities for the church. They are:
Scholarships for Students to the C.W. Duncan UMC School
- This ministry is to provide educational opportunities for 24 children annually in Clara Town, Monrovia, Liberia, via scholarships.
Wells for Liberia
- This ministry strives to improve health in villages by funding wells and sanitary pumps through Water for Life
Partnership in Ministry with St. Mark UMC-Kakata
- This ministry provides prayer, communication about programs, pastor salary support, and funds for the reconstruction of a new church, as theirs was destroyed in Liberia’s civil war.
- To date, Central has provided ongoing funds to help in rebuilding the church. We are currently running a Crowdrise fundraiser to secure $18,000 to put the roof on the church. Please prayerfully consider a donation and help spread the word by sharing the Crowdrise page on social media. It can be found at crowdrise.com/liberiaroof.
In support of our Liberia initiatives, Central holds Liberia-focused worship services, informs the congregation via offering stories and conducts various fundraisers and luncheons to support these projects.

There are 3 to 6 educational and/or fundraising events each year. This ministry is led by Ernie Bauer and operates under the Liberia Covenant Group. All are welcome to participate.
