Connecting with God: Advent Services

First Sunday in Advent: Sunday, December 3rd

  • Services at 8:30, 10:00 and 10:30am
  • The Redemption of Scrooge Sermon Series: Bah! Humbug! God’s Business of Redemption.
  • Music by the Chancel Choir and Agape Ringers.

Second Sunday in Advent: Sunday, December 10th

  • Services at 8:30, 10:00 and 10:30am
  • Baby’s First Christmas.
  • The Redemption of Scrooge Sermon Series: No Time Like the Present.
  • Music by Chancel Choir and the Carol and New Joy Choir.

Third Sunday in Advent: Sunday, December 17th

  • Services at 8:30, 10:00 and 10:30am
  • Musical services at 8:30 and 10:ooam
  • Christmas Cantata “For Us a Child Is Born” BWV 142 by Johann Kuhnau, performed by the Chancel Choir during the 10:30 worship service.

Fourth Sunday in Advent: Sunday, December 24th

  • Services at 10:00 and 10:30am only
  • The Redemption of Scrooge Sermon Series: A Hopeful Future.
  • Sacrament of Baptism.
  • Music by the Chancel Choir and YTBN Ringers.

Connecting with God: Faith Formation

Advent Study

  • Thursdays 11/30 – 12/21, 10:30am & 6:30pm
  • Based on the book Faithful by Adam Hamilton, which examines the Christmas story from the viewpoint of Joseph and “reads between the lines” to show how his courageous actions were crucial to the birth of Christ and God’s salvation plan for humanity.

Practice Daily Devotions

  • Devotional Guides for all ages will be available in the Chapel hallway and online after November 19th.

Peacemaker’s Advent Workshop

  • Sunday, December 3rd, 5 – 7:30pm
  • Bring a dish to pass for this time of fellowship and faith growth. After dinner you will learn more about Advent, peacemaking and global migration.

Connecting with God: Christmas Services

Blue Christmas

  • Wednesday, December 20th, 7pm
  • A service of remembrance and encouragement. Leave your pain, loss and discouragement at the altar in readiness to find peace this Advent season.

Family Christmas Service

  • Saturday, December 23, 6:30 pm
  • An intergenerational, family-friendly “candlelight” Christmas service that is interactive and engaging for all ages.

Christmas Eve Services

  • 8:00pm—Carols & Candlelight Service
    Featuring the Jubilate Dancers Chancel Choir
  • 11:00pm—Carols & Communion Service

Changing the World: Mission and Giving

Clothe-a-Child

Help clothe children from the Waterford school district by making a monetary donation. Make checks payable to the Church with “Clothe a Child” in the memo. More information is available in the church office.

Baldwin Holiday Store

Donate items to the Baldwin Center Holiday Store to help make the holidays brighter for those in need. The deadline for donations is December 10th. For more info, contact Sally Lawrence.

Compassionate Christmas Cards

Purchase Gifts to Missions Christmas cards beginning November 29th for a $5 per card donation. Cards can be purchased in the hallway or from the church office.

Jail Ministry

Olive Mae Glenn Circle will collect Christmas cards with stamped envelopes for prisoners to send to family and friends. Please place donations in the Chapel hallway by December 10th.

Christmas Wishes for Methodist Children’s Home

Take a snowman ornament from the window in the Narthex and bring new givts to the church By Sunday, December 10th to benefit boys in the Methodist Children’s Home.

Hats and Mittens/Gloves

Donate a matched set of a hat + mittens/gloves after Nov. 26th to go to Waterford School children through the Clothe-a-Child program (please no scarves).

Advent Mission Project

Central UMC with tithe 10% of our Christmas Offering to our global missions in Liberia—the C.W. Duncan School, St. Mark Church and Wells for Liberia.

Connecting with Others: Music and Fellowship

Hanging of the Greens

  • Saturday, November 25th, 9am
  • Help transform the church for Christmas and enjoy a light lunch when our labors are done. Sign up outside the church office or contact Jannette Deszell for more info.

Harvesters Outing

  • Saturday, December 9th, noon
  • Join us for a showing of “The Polar Express” at the Redford Theater. Meet at the church at noon to carpool to the theater. Tickets are $5.

Jackson Chorale Concert

  • Saturday, December 9th, 7:30pm
  • Enjoy an evening of Christmas music with the critically acclaimed Jackson Chorale. Visit www.jacksonchorale.org for ticket information.

Tuesday Musicale Concert

  • Tuesday, December 12th, 7pm
  • A free Christmas performance by the Tuesday Musicale choir.

All Church Caroling

  • Sunday, December 17th, 5pm
  • Share Christmas cheer with our homebound members. All are invited. Sign up outside the church office.
