Words to the Cross – Love Conquers a Futile Word. When the cross was empty and Jesus’ body was laid in a nearby tomb, the religious leaders asked Pilate to secure the tomb. They feared that Jesus’ disciples would steal Jesus’ body and say that he has risen. Pilate told those religious leaders to place their own guard at the tomb which they did after sealing the tomb. The words and actions of the chief priests and Pharisees were futile against the power of God’s love and the resulting resurrection. When love burst forth from the tomb of Christ, it is as if God is begging us as followers of Christ, to find somebody to love.
