Riverside Ice Cream Social and Book Exchange Draws Nearly 100 Students

On August 8th we traveled down the road to Riverside Elementary School to partner with the school for an Ice Cream Social and Book Exchange event. Last year we had about 35 kids. This year we had almost 100!! It was amazing! Children and families had the opportunity to exchange their Riverside summer books, read/listen to a story, make a comic strip, get free books, eat ice cream, play games, get their face painted, run through an inflatable obstacle course (special thanks to Oakland County Parks and Rec), and have pictures taken with Wilbur (the reading mascot) and Dr. Wunderlich (the school superintendent). We became partners with a local elementary school several years ago as a way to meet people and build relationships in our community. This is an example of how we can share the love of God with our actions. Special thanks to the more than 30 people who participated at the event and everyone who donated books. All the extra books were gifted to the school. Thank you for being an extension of our amazing God in our community by serving the literacy needs of our children.
