Jack Mannschreck is in his first year as the pastor of Central United Methodist Church in Waterford having served as a United Methodist Pastor in the greater Detroit Metropolitan area for nearly 29 years: Grosse Pointe (Associate) 1984-1992, Oxford 1992-2002, Big Beaver 2002-2013, Waterford Central 2013-Present.
Jack and his wife, Ruth, have been married for 27 years and have four children.  Jeremiah (24) is married to Sara and graduated from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in May 2013.  Sara graduated from Wheaton College with a Master Degree in English as a Second Language (ESL) in May.  Benjamin (22) graduated from Calvin College in 2012, is applying to Grad School and is currently working at Portable Church, Inc.  Sarah (21) is a junior at Western Michigan University leaning toward social work or audio pathology in her studies.  Jonathan (20) is studying at the Culinary School at Oakland Community College and works at Toast and Townhouse restaurants in Birmingham.
Ruth is a dentist and also owns her own personal coaching and consulting company – Shoreline Strategies.  She is the daughter of a United Methodist pastor, is committed to mission ministries and has a wonderful soprano voice.  She excels in cooking and baking; finding it therapeutic.  Both Ruth and Jack enjoy reading, the theatre, the symphony and museums.
The entire Mannschreck family loves music; each of them sing and play a variety of instruments: Jack – piano and saxophone, Ruth – a little piano, Jeremiah – guitar, piano and clarinet, Sara – piano, Benjamin – trumpet and drums, Sarah – piano and violin, Jonathan – trombone and piano.  It was a noisy household when the children were young!
Travel is important to Jack and Ruth and when the children were young, the family took many vacations around the United States – many trips to Colorado to see Oma and Gramps, Yellowstone National Park, Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon as well as renting cottages up north.  In 2006 the entire family went to England as part of the Board of Global Ministry exchange program.  They were able to tour London, Paris, Liverpool, castles in Wales and swam in the Irish Sea.  All of them have worked on mission trips to Haiti, Ruth having gone three times.
Pastor Jack is proud to be an interdisciplinary student earning a degree in Medical Technology from Michigan State, his Master of Divinity from Boston University and a Masters of Business Administration from Wayne State University.  For many years Jack wrote a column for the Michigan Christian Advocate and has published articles in other magazines on the internet.  In January 2013, he began a Doctorate of Ministry Degree at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in the area of Spiritual Direction and Formation.

Pastor Jack grew up on a farm south of Adrian and went to school in Morenci.  He inherited his “farm work ethic” from his father and his mother taught him the enduring lesson that it is not our ability that matters to God as much as our availability.  All who follow Christ are called to ministry – not just clergy – and all can find meaning in fulfilling God’s purpose for their lives.
